Get ready for change

October 29, 2017

Get ready for it... this weekend has been all deep and philosophical, and so a ton of pondering on the following points has occurred. I thought it was interesting though, so I wanted to share it with you...

The title of this blog post sums up the point of it pretty perfectly - we will all have points in our lives when Life hands us a chance. It can be anything - a chance to suddenly travel, a chance to go back to school, a chance to make a new friend, a chance to change someone's life. What we actually do with these chances is as uniquely individual as we all are, and for the most part just greatly reaffirms who we actually are at our cores. Our choices when this happens define us as real, genuine people.

Two years ago, when I realized that I could realistically go back to school and actually make something out of my life, I knew that this was an opportunity that I just couldn't pass up. I hated my career back then as an administrative assistant and was interested in ANY change that would get me out of it. And now, almost a year and a half into the program, it is still one of the best decisions I have ever made. The material that I am learning and the skills that I am building are going to help me be able to help so many people out there in the world. In fact, I am going to use this degree that I am working on to change the world.

That's the big stuff. Then there are the seemingly-little daily things that most of us probably don't even notice or think about. Did you smile at someone by the mailbox today as you were getting your mail? That may have been the thing that they needed most in that moment. Did you do a favour for your sister/neighbour/friend for no reason other than the fact that they needed you to? You may have been the saving grace that opened up enough space in their day to actually get their to-do list accomplished. Did you do ANY little nice thing that turned out to not really be that little? Maybe you are just one of the sparks that is going to help change the world.

Plans are in the works...

So I am working on something big (huge shock right? Knowing me...). It's bigger than just my fundraising though. Bigger than any motivational talk I could give. Bigger than any one little thing that any of us could do. It is going to inspire our community, build relationships (especially where they are needed most), heal fractures in families, bring us all together, and connect every person that we can reach. It is going to help those who are in need, raise people up when they are down, and remind us that we are a community. Together, we are stronger. I am going to need everybody's help and a lot of people may have to pitch in... but I am hoping that I will be able to pull this off.

Please stay tuned! I am hoping to have at least the first stage of this operation started by the end of 2017.

It's been said that making a difference seems so daunting at first, until you realize that this way of thinking implies that you need to have some sort of influence, special talent and time in order to make a change, when in fact, it takes only the desire to make just one thing a little bit better.

Positivity can make a BIG difference sometimes...

April 14, 2017

I always seem to encounter interesting people while taking transit these days... Some have amazing life stories. Some are dealing with things that seem epic compared to what the average bear has to deal with on a daily basis. Some are sad, but many are just the friendliest people you would ever be fortunate enough to meet.

This evening was no different. On my way home from my night class, I struck up a conversation with a really nice lady while we were both waiting at the Port Credit GO sta...

Left reflecting on this Friday evening...

February 25, 2017
As another week draws to a close, I was sitting here reflecting on the things that I managed to get done and what I accomplished this past week (and during the month of February as a whole). This month has actually been absolutely incredible when it comes to my physical recovery! I can now lift more weight, do more reps and accomplish so much more than I ever dreamed in the gym. I am actually doing well in school and really understanding and learning the material (which is sort of a new exper...

A friend of mine shared this link with me today... a heartbreaking story (as many AVM-related stories are), but it has a happy ending  :)

My mind has been blown… again

December 12, 2016

This time though, it isn’t literal (I had a couple of brain hemorrhages back in 1998 and 2001, for anyone who doesn’t know). This time, the thing that is blowing my mind is actually the power of that very organ.

I had a pretty serious stroke right after that last brain hemorrhage, which I am still recovering from. But for the past few years now, I have been working on teaching my body to remember how to be functional. This is accomplished through some pretty intense visualization tech...
